I have been promoting this model on the forum for a while now.

> Resonating with perception is short term memory. (This is the pattern completion mentioned above) These traces decay rapidly, depending on the number of maps and subcortical structures that form your current conscious perception of “now;” a few seconds to a few minutes. The circulation from highest level of the hierarchy (temporal lobe), through subcortex, out to the forbrain, and projections from the forbrain back to the sensor hierarchy form the basic loop of consciousness. The reverberating/…

Just for fun, try to bring saccades into your consciousness. The scanning and integration of objects is an observed behavior but try as I like, I can’t “experience” it. Likewise, the loop of consciousness has a significant portion of the process in subcortical structures. We can draw a box about the “subconscious” but it is not available to in…

And the novel bits that don’t match but that you are learning online. This is felt in the episodic portion of the temporal lobe. When I localized this I am putting what is perhaps undue emphasis on this part as the entire brain is engaged in this perception and there numerous mecha…

> I can’t answer most of your question but I will tackle the chunking part. It is an emergent property of system level operation. The current “contents of consciousness” - the collection of interlocking maps in the brain, each holding some part of the parsed here and now; a basket of interlocking features that combine to describe some unique collection that we take as a chunk. You have two halves of your brain that mostly are duplicates of each other and it does not take the entire brain to form…
