Great opportunity to show the world that NuPIC can be used for a real world application.

Yeah, I saw that. Seems like there’s an opportunity for two teams here? An advanced and beginner. Msg me here or jonincanada on Kaggle if someone wants to join my beginner team (I’m a beginner but this would be a good trial for setting up my development environment). It could also give us the chance to document a basic onboarding tutorial (though I’m sure that already exists somewhere).

Jon.

There’s a problem here with using either NuPIC or any similarly-licensed software. The rules explicitly exclude using any software which has a restriction on commercial use. In addition, the software used cannot have any encumbrances related to patented technologies, and HTM has nearly 100 such patents in place. I believe that NuPIC-based entries might well compete here, but you’ll very likely have to withdraw in the event you actually win.

Edit: I’ve posted on the forum [here](https://www.kaggle.com/c/melbourne-university-seizure-prediction/forums/t/23351/open-source-non-commercial-patent-free-rules)

You don’t have to withdraw if you win. You can officially win this competition even without showing/giving away your code. You only need to submit your code if you want the prize money.

Fergal, thank you for posting that. Everyone who wants to take part in this competition using HTM should [read Fergal’s post](https://www.kaggle.com/c/melbourne-university-seizure-prediction/forums/t/23351/open-source-non-commercial-patent-free-rules) on the Kaggle forum.
