How do our eyes/retina detect depth?

Really appreciate if I could be pointed to some good summary or paper. I am curious if the depth detection is solely relies on both eyes. Or there are more details there.

I recommend reading “Vision” by David Marr (1982).
In particular see “Chapter 3, Stereopsis”
