Is Linking Regions Between Processes or Hosts Possible?

Firstly, is it possible to create discrete network regions in different processes?

Secondly, is it possible to create discrete network regions on different hosts?

This seems a reasonable thing to do, but I am unable to find a documentation that may suggest it is possible.

Both are possible. The limiting factor is establishing a communication protocol between them. Just takes work, but there is nothing preventing this from happening.
