The pathways involved in coordinating consciousness (awakeness and awareness) in humans

Does anyone here have more evidence about the pathways for consciousness in humans? This article is very interesting.

Findings Rewrite the Thalamus’s Role in Consciousness
University of Iowa neurologist Aaron Boes, MD, PhD, and his colleagues show that the thalamus is not a critical part of the brain pathway involved in keeping humans awake and conscious.

“It looks like the pathway most critical for maintaining consciousness runs from the brainstem through the hypothalamus and basal forebrain into the cortex,”

Do any of Jeff’s or Subutai’s or other Numenta researchers computational level models support these findings?
