In the HTM Overview (episode 0) Matt Taylor explains that there are two major inputs to the neocortex: a copy of motor commands from older parts of the brain and a copy of sensory input from our sense organs. It seems to me that there might be two major classes of output from the cortex: the actual motor commands that constitute actions and the interior sensory representation of the sensed exterior. Is there any evidence of output from the neocortex that ‘looks like’ sensory input?
Layer 6 CT cells project to thalamus. The 3VS paper theorizes that this deep projection represents a prediction to be compared to the same input heading toward L4 in the thalamus.
thanks, that’s very interesting. I’ll take a look at that paper.
