Hex Grids & 1000 Brains Theory

In this post, I laid out a lot of the basic geometry and spacing of the relationship between mini-columns and sub-components.

I made this top-view picture to show the relative spacing between the reach of mini-columns dendrites in relation to the size of the mini-columns. The blue circles are mini-columns, and the black circle is the reach of the input dendrites of the “center” mini-column.

In the HTM into hex grid post I showed a side view of the pyramidal neurons with the inputs in red and the output in blue:

The 0.5 mm reach of the dendrites are the same as the black circle above and the larger blue output axonal arbor is the mutual axonal output links between mini-columns. Each reaches out to the others in this band of influence.

Lot’s go back and look down from the top again; here is a picture of the distant minicolumns, each is surrounded by a circle that shows the range of possible influence of these output axons.

The red circle is the mini-columns that are sensing some pattern. The highlighted lines are the axonal outputs that happen to be mutual reinforcing. What I have been calling links
