He didn’t get the “Condensed Matter” Nobel prize in neural networks for his work. Maybe he should chill out a bit and let Hinton and Hopfield be morally responsible.
I’d give Hopfield an easy “out” too, to be honest.
You could argue that the 1980’s NN pack, if you want to call them that, delayed things terribly with a lack of foundational scientific methodology.
